🟩 Reporting Side Effects (UK Yellow Card Scheme)

Even though all medicines are carefully tested, new side effects can appear after people start using them in real life. Reporting helps the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) monitor medicine safety and protect others.

If you experience any side effects—mild or serious—it’s important to report them.

With Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, and Saxenda®, common side effects include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea
  • Constipation or stomach pain
  • Low blood sugar (especially if on other diabetes medicines)
  • Fatigue or dizziness
  • Gallbladder or pancreas issues (rare)

You should report:

  • Anything unexpected or more serious than you were told
  • Any new symptoms that started after taking the medicine
  • Any effect that interferes with your daily life
  • The name of the medicine (e.g. Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Saxenda®)
  • A description of your side effect
  • How long after taking the injection it started
  • Whether you stopped or continued the medicine
  • Any other medications you’re taking

Every report helps improve safety. It doesn’t mean the medicine is dangerous—it just means your experience could help others. It also helps MHRA update safety advice and warnings for healthcare professionals and patients.

If in doubt, it’s better to report.

📝 How to report side effects (Yellow Card)

You can report side effects directly to the Yellow Card Scheme run by the MHRA.

👉 Report online at:

www.yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk

You can also:

  • Download the Yellow Card app on your phone
  • Ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you report it

Your Liver and Why It Matters

Your liver is a vital organ that performs over 500 essential tasks, including:

  • Breaking down fats, sugars, and alcohol
  • Removing toxins from your blood
  • Storing energy and nutrients
  • Helping with digestion and fighting infection

You only have one liver — and you can’t live without it.

Fatty liver disease, also called MASLD (Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease), is when too much fat builds up in the liver.

It can start with no symptoms at all, but over time can lead to:

  • Inflammation (called MASH)
  • Scarring (fibrosis or cirrhosis)
  • Permanent liver damage

Fatty liver is now one of the most common causes of liver disease in the UK.

Yes. Many people with fatty liver disease don’t feel unwell at first. But as it worsens, you may experience:

🟠 Possible signs and symptoms:

  • Tiredness and low energy
  • Discomfort or pain in the top right side of your abdomen
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Brain fog or trouble concentrating
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) — in advanced stages
  • Swelling in your tummy or legs (fluid build-up)
  • Nausea or loss of appetite

If you notice these symptoms, especially alongside risk factors like weight gain or type 2 diabetes, it’s important to speak to a healthcare professional.

You are more likely to have fatty liver disease if you:

  • Carry extra weight, especially around your belly
  • Have type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
  • Drink more than a small amount of alcohol regularly
  • Are inactive or sedentary most days
  • Have PCOS, sleep apnoea, or metabolic syndrome

Binge Eating Disorder

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is a serious mental health condition where someone regularly eats large amounts of food in a short period of time while feeling out of control. It’s often a way of coping with difficult emotions, stress, or trauma—not a matter of choice, willpower, or overeating for pleasure.

People with BED might eat quickly, secretly, or beyond the point of feeling full. Afterward, they often feel shame, guilt, or distress.

BED is not about greed or a lack of control. It’s a recognised and treatable illness.

  • Eating much more rapidly than normal
  • Eating when not hungry
  • Eating alone due to embarrassment
  • Feeling guilty or disgusted after eating
  • Frequent dieting with little or no lasting weight loss
  • Emotional distress, low self-esteem, or withdrawal from others

What Are Distraction Techniques?

Distraction techniques are simple, practical activities that help shift focus away from distressing thoughts or urges—particularly those related to eating disorders. They can be a valuable tool for managing intense emotions and breaking unhelpful patterns like binge eating.

These techniques might include things like creative tasks, physical activity, sensory tools, or social connection. The goal is to give your mind and body a chance to reset and cope in a healthier way.
